The Heart Lung Machine, also known as a Cardiopulmonary Bypass (CPB) Machine, is an advanced medical system designed to temporarily support the functions of the heart and lungs during cardiac and open-heart surgical procedures. It maintains controlled extracorporeal circulation by pumping blood through an external circuit while supporting oxygenation and carbon dioxide removal.
The system is designed with integrated pump modules for arterial, venous, suction, vent and cardioplegia applications, depending on the configuration. It can incorporate essential monitoring features such as blood-flow measurement, pressure monitoring, temperature monitoring, reservoir level sensing and air/bubble detection.
